60 years of wedded bliss
One of Old Goole's best-known couples has celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Roly and Emily Grassby, of Moorland Road, married on January 3 in 1948 at Goole Parish Church.
They moved into their current house a year after they tied the knot and have lived there ever since.
Both their parents were from Old Goole.
Roly worked for the Goole Shipbuilding and Repair Company all his working life, while Emily was at the aircraft factory in Brough during the war and worked in a shop afterwards.
They both have strong connections with St Mary's Church, in Old Goole, where they first met, and with the Goole Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. They received 70 cards from friends and family to mark their diamond wedding anniversary.
Asked the secret of a happy marriage, Emily said: "We agree on everything."
"We have different interests," added Roly.
