Creating one voice and bringing people back into the centre of Goole are among the aims of the town's recently-formed retail forum.

Chairman Gerald Holmes, of NHD Associates, gave members of the Chamber of Commerce meeting a brief outline of the forum's plans for the next few months.

Formed in April, the forum had hoped to bring back the closure of Pasture Road for a Christmas late-night shopping event, with stalls and attractions.

However, Mr Holmes explained that the amount of work involved, such as liaising with the emergency services, had been impossible to complete in the amount of time they had.

Instead, he said, the forum was planning an Easter event. It is hoped that a 'spot the bunny' type competition can be run, with the bunny hidden in one of the business windows.

There could also be a best-dressed window prize.

"The aim is to get one voice from the retailers, and to get people to come to Goole and stay in Goole," he said.

Elections were due to take place last night to choose the next chairman.
