Allergy boy starts learning from home
George Hall-Lambert began his home education this week, after leaving Howden School because he felt unsafe.
George, who has severe nut and latex allergies, suffered at the hands of bullies and a latex allergy reaction during a p.e. lesson before making his own decision to leave the school.
He will now learn English, maths, science, IT, p.e., art history and geography at home with three different teachers paid for by his parents.
George's mum, Judith, said: |"He is safe where he is but the point is he is missing out on the social side. The school shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. We have had a letter from the head to say he is no longer on the school roll."
A spokesperson for the East Riding said: "Howden School has worked hard to ensure that everything reasonably possible that could be done to ensure the health and safety of George was put into place.
"The local authority has supported the school and believes that there is no reason why George could not have continued at the school.
"Mrs Hall-Lambert has a legal responsibility to ensure that George is provided with an education, and like several other parents in the East Riding, has exercised her right to educate George at home.
"As an education authority, we believe children are generally provided with a better education and social environment in school. However, where, for whatever reason, a parent decides to home educate their child, we would support their decision if that is their wish.
"We are happy for Mrs Hall-Lambert to undertake this and will give her information about organisations that could provide her with advice and support. As a local authority, we will also need to fulfil our statutory duty to monitor the arrangements and ensure that Mrs Hall-Lambert is providing George with a suitable education." (20-12-58 GT)
