Improvements set for local train stations
Major improvements are in the pipeline for Howden train station.
Speaking at Monday's Chamber of Commerce meeting David Walford, of the Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council (HWRCC), outlined changes to Howden station, and more minor alterations to Goole station.
"There is a lot happening at Howden," he said.
Planned improvements include making it easier to get back to Howden from Leeds in the evening, making the entrance to the car park safer, and extending the car park along the railway line.
It is hope this will create 20 to 30 more spaces, and allow for a bus turning area.
Improvements at Goole will be more cosmetic, and car park charges there will also be reviewed.
Mr Walford said the Community Rail Humber group, which was formed three years ago, had proved "an instant success".
Meetings take place every three month, and bring together all the train companies, he said.
'Over the last three years, we've got a very forceful voice," he said.
"Railways are fundamental to the success of this area's economy."
Ian Cawsey, MP for Brigg and Goole, also addressed members about the railways, and said the difficulty in increasing services is that train companies either want a guarantee that their services will be used, or a subsidy.
