Plans to convert two barns into a house at Barmby on the Marsh have been turned down by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The applicants, Mr and Mrs J. Ward, submitted two applications relating to Fox Farm on High Street. As the property is a listed building, listed building consent was needed as well as full planning permission.

The couple wanted to turn two redundant barns into a single dwelling, involving building a two-storey extension to link the barns.

In a report to Tuesday's western area planning committee, concerns were raised about the effect on the setting of the farm, and it was felt that the changes would harm the relationship between the farm and its outbuildings.

The report concluded that the size and scale of the proposed two-storey link extension would "fail to preserve the special architectural and historic interest and setting of the original farmstead grouping".

Listed Building Consent was also refused.
