Magistrates reprimanded a Goole teenager last week after hearing that he had a 'field day' when he removed his curfew tag before causing a scene in the town's Tesco store.

Appearing before Goole Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, December 19, the teenage boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted breaching his curfew order by removing a tagging device from around his ankle and pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour that could cause alarm and harassment to others around him.

Prosecuting for Securicor, the company that fitted the teenager's tagging device, Miss Buchanan told the court that Securicor was informed by police on November 27 that the boy's tag had been broken.

When the boy was questioned, he said that there had been an itch on the leg that the tag was fitted on and when he went to scratch it with his other leg, the tag had fallen off.

Miss Buchanan added that, since then, another tag had been fitted and to date, the boy had been complying with his curfew order, which means he must stay at home between 7pm and 7am, seven days a week.

Prosecuting for the harassment charge, Mr Steven Robinson told the court that at around 5.30pm on November 27 the boy was seen arguing with a girl in Tesco. When told by a security guard to leave, he refused and "made a scene".

He was guided to the door, where he pushed the security guard away before leaving, still arguing with the girl.

Mr Robinson said that police saw the boy leaving the store, along with the people he was with, and mistakenly arrested his brother.

The boy allegedly ran from the scene, shouting to police: "Ha ha, you've got the wrong one, it was me."

A chase ensued, back to the boy's house, where he told police as they tried to arrest him: "I ain't getting f***ing arrested. I'm not f***ing going anywhere."

When he was arrested, the boy told police that he had been arguing in Tesco with his girlfriend. He admitted that people appeared shocked by his behaviour.

In his defence, the teenager told magistrates: "I admit it's not appropriate behaviour, but I didn't shout 'Ha ha' at police.

"I didn't take my tag off. I didn't realise it had fallen off until my brother told me."

Magistrates told the teenager: "These tags do not just come off. It is a coincidence that the tag came off on the same day that this offence was committed.

"On November 27, whatever got into you caused you to have a field day."

In considering the case, magistrates revoked the boy's current curfew order, and replaced it with a new, three-month curfew order. This means he must be at home from 7pm until 7am, seven days a week. Court costs to the sum of £50 were also imposed.

"The cost falls on your mother to sort out," said magistrates.

"Your behaviour has got to start toeing the line, like everybody else's."
