Still smiling despite jail time threat
A YOUNG Goole mother skipped smiling from court after being exposed as a mobile-phone thief and warned with prison.
Mother-of-three Danyell Marshall (24) was arrested in a Humberside Police investigation into street crime which also netted an alleged 18-year-old mobile-phone thief working near Goole Railway Station.
Miss Marshall, of Jackson Street, pleaded guilty to stealing a mobile telephone belonging to David Dodgson on May 11 when she appeared at Hull Crown Court on Monday, December 2.
Dressed in black leggings, trainers, denim mini skirt and blue wind-proof jacket, Ms Marshall let her barrister do the talking.
Mitigating defence counsel Paul Genney said: "She is not heavily convicted. She has three young children, all of whom she cares for.
"It may be that there is a positive recommendation from a pre-sentence report. It is my application that a report be made."
Crown barrister Stephen Welsh said the matter was complicated because an 18-year-old woman had also been arrested at the same time and the matters were due for mention in court. He said although they were different allegations against different people they should be heard at the court together.
The female victim in the other case reported the theft had taken place on May 10 near Goole Railway Station.
At this stage Ms Marshall gave no indication of remorse for her victim and sat smiling in court.
Judge Roger Thorn, QC, ordered Ms Marshall to stand as he told her he agreed he needed reports and wanted the case to heard with that of the 18-year-old.
Judge Thorn added: "The fact I am giving you bail and asking for reports should not be taken as an indication of the sentencing options open. All sentencing options will be open."
Ms Marshall was allowed to walk free on bail on condition she lives at her home address and reports to Goole Police Station. She will next appear for sentence at Hull Crown Court at a date to be fixed in the New Year.
