A man was arrested after a late-night argument with his wife ended with him pushing her against a wall, Goole magistrates heard on Tuesday.

David Coleman (38), of Moorland Road in Old Goole, admitted a charge of common assault on his wife.

The court heard that the couple, who have been married for 15 years, were having a night in on November 17 but got into an argument over family matters.

Mrs Coleman decided to leave but her husband, who had been drinking, grabbed her by her arm and pushed her against a kitchen wall, causing her to hit her head.

No injuries were inflicted but Mrs Coleman called the police, who arrived and found Mr Coleman to be in a 'calm' state, prosecutor Julie Laverack Glanville said.

Mr Coleman was arrested and, in an interview, made a full admission.

James Grey, defending, said: "Mr Coleman very much regrets the incident."

The court heard that the couple's marriage was "not troublesome', and the parties were now reconciled and had discussed the issue which caused the argument.

"He has been told by his wife that he is on his last chance," Mr Grey said.

Magistrates gave Mr Coleman an 18-month conditional discharge and warned him to stay out of trouble.

He was also ordered to pay £55 costs.
