There were double celebrations at the Helping Hands Christmas party last weekend when a young girl received a special award.
Karolina Koston (12), from Poland, was awarded a certificate of achievement by Goole Town Mayor Cllr Jean Kitchen at the Christmas party held at Central Methodist Church on Saturday, after completing a Local Accreditation Award set up by the East Riding Youth Service.
Helping Hands meets at Central Methodist Church in North Street every Thursday afternoon, and helps not only migrant workers with their problems, but also acts as a family club, where children can go along, play table tennis and softball, and use computers and laptops to learn and improve their English.
Staff from the East Riding's participation unit come along to help, and it is through this service that Karolina has achieved her award.
Cllr Jean Kitchen said this week: "I am pleased to have been able to present Karolina with this award. She is the first young person in Goole to complete the work, and I hope that others will follow her lead."
