Boozy driver banned

A Goole man who 'stumbled' out of the car he was driving to give a breath test has been banned from driving for 28 months.

Juris Kokorevics (30), of Marshfield Road, appeared before Goole Magistrates' Court and admitted driving while almost three times over the legal drink-drive limit.

Prosecuting, Julie Laverack Glanville said: "It was 1.27am on November 14. The police saw a BMW which was slow moving.

"It was moving very slowly in spite of the fact that there were no other road users and the car was wandering from side to side.

"As a result, the car was stopped on Carter Street.

"The driver smelled strongly of alcohol. He stumbled out of his car and gave a roadside breath test which was positive.

"He was taken to Beverley Police Station and provided two samples, the lower of which was 103 mcg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath." The legal limit for a driver is 35 mcg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath.

"He was fully co-operative throughout proceedings," Mrs Laverack Glanville said.

In his defence, the court heard that Mr Kokorevics had never appeared in any court before.

"He'd had a bit too much to drink," his solicitor said. "He sends his apologies and he appreciates it was a stupid thing to do."

Magistrates ordered Mr Kokorevics to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work, banned him from driving for 28 months and ordered him to pay £55 costs.
