Work starts at new centre
Building work has begun on the new training centre for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People in Bielby, near Pocklington.
The new centre will allow the charity to double the amount of dogs it trains each year.
Hearing Dogs has outgrown its site at Cliffe and needs to move to bigger premises to meet the ever-increasing demand for working canine assistants.
A public appeal, urging people to "Buy A Brick" at the new centre, has brought in enough money to allow construction work to begin.
However, the charity is still looking for £1m over the next eight months to complete the work, allowing both staff and dogs to move over from Cliffe by mid-July next year.
