The competitors in this year's Christmas Tree Competition at Snaith Methodist Chapel have been announced this week.
The competition is due to take place as part of the third Christmas Tree Festival, which runs from November 30 to January 6, 2008. The public are invited to go along Saturday, December 1, 8, and 15, between 11am and 4pm, or on Sunday, December 2, 9 and 16, between 2pm and 4pm, to judge their favourite tree.
Competitors in the junior category include Snaith School, Snaith Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Snaith Primary School, Snaith and Cowick Playscheme, Pollington Primary School, Snaith Childminders, 1st Corps and Snaith and Cowick Together.
Competitors in the senior category include Abbey Belles, the Chapel Fundraising Committee, Come and Sing, Ladies' Circle, NSPCC, Priory Church, Readers' Group, St John Ambulance, Snaith Stitchers, Curteys Miniatures & 1, Wesley Guild, Women's Institute and Young Wives.
Snaith Chapel would like to thank Chucks and Cheese, Croda International, Drax Power, Heptonstalls Solicitors, Paul Cooper Transport, Snaith Hall Care Home and Solo Petroleum for sponsoring the Christmas Tree Festival.
Each tree in the Christmas Tree competition will be numbered, without revealing which organisation entered the tree. There will be a junior section and senior section of the competition, and voting slips are to be ticked and placed in a ballot box. Three local schools will be entering the junior section - Pollington Primary, Snaith Primary and The Snaith School.
The fun begins with a Magic and Music Night on Friday, November 30, at 7pm, when all the trees will be on show at a concert of magic, songs and carols. Tickets are just £3.
The competition will be closed in style on December 21, when the Anston Male Voice Choir will perform at 7.30pm. The second half of the programme will include Christmas carols that everyone can join in with, and the first, second and third prizes will be awarded during the concert by Ian Cawsey, MP.
Tickets for the concert cost £6 and can be purchased on the door.
