Town council in funding bid
Howden Town Council is to apply for a share of £5 million of funding.
Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are available for projects through the Breathing Places scheme and councillors at Tuesday's meeting suggested money could be used to improve a piece of land they are in the process of buying.
A joint venture between the BBC and the Big Lottery Fund, the scheme grants money to green spaces which benefit the local community.
Councillors agreed that the land they are purchasing, adjacent to Parson's Lane, would benefit from such funding. Town clerk Liz Charnock is to request an application form.
The deal on the land is almost done, with just the legal formalities to be completed.
Cllr Robin Drury said: "Once it's in our hands, we need to make our mark on it."
The deadline for applications is January 18.
