Dog hit-and-run
A Goole family was left heartbroken by the callous actions of a motorist last week who knocked their dog over and fled without stopping.
Nicola Holloway told the Goole Times that at around 7.30pm last Thursday evening, she was walking two family dogs, cross-breeds Millie and Butch, along Hook Road with her younger sister Beth, when Millie's lead slipped out of Beth's grasp and the dog ran into the road, into the path of an oncoming car.
"The car was speeding and had a lot of time to stop before it hit Millie but it didn't," said Nicola. She added that the motorist did not stop the car even after it hit Millie, who died moments after being knocked down.
"The driver didn't even stop, but a woman who was driving another car did and a man who was jogging also stopped," said Nicola. "I carried Millie off the road, but she died a few moments later." Nicola's sister Shireen Holloway this week issued a message to the driver of the car. It said: "I hope you're proud of yourself. The dog died and you couldn't even be bothered to stop. You've left a family heartbroken.
"You know who you are and I hope you can live with yourself.
"Thank you to everybody who did stop and help."
