Make a dedication of love for appeal

A local woman is urging others to join her in celebrating someone special as part of Sue Ryder Care's Lights of Love Appeal.
Denise McGibbon, who works as receptionist at the neurological care centre Sue Ryder Care – Holme Hall, is backing the appeal, which offers people the chance to make a dedication for someone they have loved.
Denise said: "I think Lights of Love is a nice way of remembering someone you love. What better way than to have a light shining for them? It is very comforting and at the same time it helps raise vital funds for the charity. During this time I remember my son, who unfortunately died in a car accident in 1991 before his 18th birthday. For us it's a family event, as my husband comes along to help, together with my grandchildren and my two step-daughters, who sing in the Weighton Waites, the choir that sings at the event."
Anyone dedicating a Light of Love will see their loved one's name appear in a special Book of Celebration. They will also receive a pack containing a star which can be hung on a Christmas tree, as well as a special lapel badge.
There will also be a Lights of Love event organised by the fundraising team based at the neurological centre Sue Ryder Care, Holme Hall on December 6 at 7pm, which last year attracted many people who wanted to celebrate their loved ones, as well as support Sue Ryder Care.
In East Riding of Yorkshire the charity's four shops across the region are joining in the campaign for the first time this year and people will be able to make a dedication in store.
Els Tompkins, fundraising manager at Sue Ryder Care, said: "Especially in the run up to the festive season, people's thoughts turn to people they have loved, who may no longer be with us. Lights of Love is a way of celebrating the time people spent together.
"Many people support the event because they have been touched by the services Sue Ryder Care provides nationwide."
