Next year's Howden Show will take place at The Ashes on Sunday, July 13.

It will be the 128th show and the committee is keen to build on the progress made towards restoring the annual event's reputation as one of the region's finest agricultural and horticultural shows.

Newly-appointed chairman Richard Dunlop said: "The move back to The Ashes was very popular and I think that there is a feeling among the committee members and the wider community that The Ashes is very much where Howden Show belongs.

"Like many of this summer's agricultural shows, we suffered with the weather, but the show was well attended and the feedback that we have received about the quality of the attractions on offer has been very positive.

"We intend to build on this over the coming months to ensure that the 2008 Howden Show is an event that the whole town can be proud of."

As part of its role in promoting a better understanding of agriculture, the committee is encouraging local people to join the Howden Show Society. Membership costs £17 for adults and £5 for children aged 12 years and under. As well as being entitled to free entry to the showground on the day, members can also access the members' enclosure to enjoy a free buffet lunch and tea or coffee throughout the day. They also receive the right to vote at the Annual General Meeting and get priority invitations to members' evenings.

Membership payments can be made by sending a cheque, along with your name and address, to: Leonie Dykes, ARD (Russell Dykes) Ltd, Howdenshire Way, Knedlington Road, Howden, DN14 7HZ. Alternatively, telephone 07970 814085 or 01430 431134.

Tickets for the Howden Show Committee's New Year's Eve dinner dance at The Ashes have now sold out; those who have reserved a table are asked to make their payment in full no later than December 1.
