Warehouse goes to make way for regeneration
A warehouse on Hook Road has now been demolished, marking the next step in Goole's housing renewal programme.
Work to clear the Adelphi warehouse site finished at the end of last month.
Tom Du Boulay, spokesperson for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "The warehouse is part of the Advance Goole redevelopment site which, along with the Richard Cooper Street and Phoenix Street site, will be developed with new housing in line with the views expressed in public consultation.
"Work started in September with the delicate task of removing the roof sheeting, some of which contained low-risk asbestos. Once the roofs had been removed, the demolition of the warehouse and offices moved on at a good pace."
Mr Du Boulay also said that there will soon be movement in the 'Changing Streets' part of Advance Goole. A number of streets will have exterior facelifts.
On the clearance of Richard Cooper and Phoenix streets, most of the properties have been acquired by voluntary means. However, there are still issues surrounding planning permission, getting a developer on board and compulsory purchase processes to resolve.
