Work begins to transform Vermuyden School

Published on 8th November 2007 in News

Work has begun on Vermuyden School's £15 million rebuild and refurbishment project.

Contractors arrived on site last week and began by setting up a site office and creating their own entrance on Centenary Road.

The first stage is an Extended Services building, which will incorporate a new youth centre and new gymnasium. Diggers are now working, preparing the ground for the foundations to be laid before Christmas. There is minimal disturbance to normal school life, although the Year 11 mock exams have been put back to January to avoid the noisiest stage of the process.

Head teacher Anne McErlane said: "I am delighted to see the work actually starting, after so many months of planning. The end result will be fantastic new refurbished school buildings which will provide marvellous and inspiring learning facilities for our students."
