Attack lands man in dock

A Goole man has admitted attacking his sister's boyfriend in the street, when he was seen to kick him while he was on the ground.

At the eleventh hour Grant Hart (21) pleaded guilty before the start of a scheduled trial at Hull Crown Court on Monday, November 5.

Mr Hart, of Carlisle Street, had previously denied unlawfully attacking the victim, claiming he had acted in self defence.

Witnesses saw the victim curled up on the on the ground in Morley Street, Old Goole and being kicked on June 9. Police were called and Mr Hart was arrested.

Mr Hart appeared from custody and was represented by barrister John Thackray. He stood behind a screen in the dock of Court One as he pleaded guilty to the assault when the charge was put to him for a second time.

Wearing a blue hooded jumper and blue Adidas tracksuit bottoms, Mr Hart faces other matters, which were not put to him.

Crown barrister Anil Murray said the assault on his sister's boyfriend had been accepted on a written basis which the prosecution did not agree, but they did not seek a trial over the issue.

He said Mr Hart faced other matters which were still being progressed through the courts.

Defence barrister John Thackray said the other allegation might be contested and asked for the judge to sentence for the attack.

"He wishes to learn his fate today," said Mr Thackray. Mr Hart had already spent 130 days locked up.

Judge Michael Mettyear ordered Mr Hart to stand as he told him he was adjourning sentence to see if progress had been made on the outstanding allegations.

He ruled that Mr Hart would next appear before the court on December 3, when more is known and he will possibly be sentenced.

There was no application for bail and Mr Hart was remanded in custody. He was taken to cells below court and a waiting prison van.
