Bleak future for band after raid
Published on 1st November 2007 in News
A local band was recently left without any equipment after it was stolen from a garage they use as a practice room.
The band, Captain Crossfire, noticed that the lock was broken off the garage door in Jackson Street last Wednesday and immediately called police.
Two electric guitars were taken, an Ibanez GAX30, and a Marlin Flying V, a Behringer 1700 power amp, a Peavy mixing desk, two Behringer microphones, a Stagg microphone stand and a zoom multi-effects pedal. The equipment is said to be worth more than £1,000 in total.
Benji Rankin, guitarist for Captain Crossfire, said: "This is our hobby and we can't afford to replace the equipment. My guitar got stolen and I need it for college, its going to take us a while to save up the money to replace it."
The band believe that whoever took their equipment already knew it was in there and were disturbed because they didn't take everything. Benji said: "Someone knew this stuff was already in here and they knew what they were taking.
"We just want to make a plea to parents that, if their kids have come home with equipment, then they must know about it. It's not easy to hide, like a mobile phone for example. We just want our equipment back. If we get it back that will be the end of it."
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact police on 0845 60 60 222, quoting log number CI1526495 of Wednesday, October 24.
Humberside Police are urging householders to consider the following crime prevention advice in order to avoid becoming a victim of burglary:
• If possible, consider fitting deadlocks to all outside doors - burglars hate them because you need a key to open them from the inside as well as the outside.
• Lock any key-operated locks on downstairs or accessible windows - burglars don't like having to smash windows because of the noise and the danger of cutting themselves.
• Try to make sure your TV and other valuables can't be seen from your window. Also don't leave empty boxes from new purchases outside for burglars to see.
• If on holiday, use a timer switch to turn lights and radios on when you are out or away to give the impression that your house is occupied.
• Install a burglar alarm - and turn it on. If you do not have one, consider investing a few pounds in a dummy alarm-box.
Burglary has fallen by 20 per cent in the last year across the Humberside Police area. This means there have been 1,742 fewer homes broken into. Police are determined to reduce these figures further still through committed and thorough investigations of burglaries and by targeting those suspected of committing burglary.
