Timms' plans stuck in limbo

Proposals to alter a plans for the projected retail centre at the former Timms Mill site in Goole have once again been put on hold by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Meeting in Beverley last week, members of the full planning committee decided to defer a decision on plans to change unit one of the £4 million development from non-food to food retail use until there has been a further discussion with the applicant, E. Timm and Son Ltd., on the design of the building.
The decision contrasts with the recommendation put forward by planning officers, who believe that the plans for a food retailer, which is likely to be Lidl, should be approved as there have been only two letters of objection, one from Goole Town Council and one from a resident.
Members of Goole Town Council object to the proposals as they believe that the inclusion of a food retailer would have a detrimental effect on the retail element of the east of the town.
However, Goole Town and East Riding councillor Eric Raddings told the Goole Times this week that he was in favour of the plans going ahead.
He said: "I was disappointed that the officer's recommendation of approval wasn't taken up last week. The plans were deferred last month as well, because clarification of the retail planning statement accompanying the application was required.
"The application has been put on hold until there have been further consultations with the developer over the design of the food retail buiding, but I want this site progressed as it has been left derelict for too long.
"I think that Lidl moving to this site would be a positive move as it would free up space on the eastern side of town. It's time to move forward with the officer's recommendation of approval."
The application is set to be re-heard on Thursday, November 9.
