Published on 25th October 2007 in News

A teenager from Thorne has been locked up for stealing a motorbike and a mobile phone.

Andrew Smith (18), of Houps Road, appeared at Goole Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and admitted stealing the motorbike and failing to surrender to bail.

He had already entered a guilty plea at Doncaster Magistrates' Court to stealing a mobile phone, reported to be worth £150, from a boy from Goole.

Magistrates decided to activate a suspended sentence of 16 weeks imposed last month for common assault.

For the offences of stealing a motorbike and failing to surrender to bail, Mr Smith was sentenced to 16 weeks and 12 weeks in prison respectively, both to run concurrently.

For stealing a mobile phone, he was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison to run consecutively, making a total of 32 weeks.

The seven days he has already spent in custody will be taken into consideration.

Magistrates said that compensation or costs were not appropriate.
