Police service improves

Humberside Police has improved in both 'tackling crime' and 'resources and efficiency' in the latest round of assessments carried out by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constab-ularies (HMIC) and the Home Office.

They have also remained stable in 'satisfaction and fairness'.

The report, which was published on October 9, also evidences the improvements to call handling, particularly in terms of handling 999 emergency calls. However, the Authority was disappointed to see the force awarded 'poor' for local priorities.

Alene Branton, MBE, Chair of the Police Authority, said: "There are definite signs of improvement, but there is a fair way to go yet. The Authority will continue to set challenging targets and scrutinise performance very closely to drive force performance up further.

"The improvements illustrate the hard work that has taken place, but obviously the same can be said for other forces which we are continually measured against.

"We will be discussing the report with the Chief Constable and the senior officer team to see what plans he has to address the key areas for improvement such as local peoples' satisfaction with policing in Humberside, which sits within Local Priorities."
