Couple celebrate 50 years of marriage

Jack and Doris Couch from Crowle recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary, after meeting on New Year's Eve in Trafalgar Square way back in 1942.
The couple got engaged but were then forced to spend some time apart because Jack was serving in the RAF and the war meant he had to travel to India, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and Rangoon in Burma.
When Jack returned in 1947 they were married in Doris's home town of Mitcham in Surrey and later returned to Crowle, where Jack was born.
The couple have three children, David (58) and twins Geoffrey and Carol (54).
Jack and Doris celebrated with a party for all their family and friends at Hirst Priory Golf Club near Crowle and received a scrap book of memories, with photos and messages from their family and friends as well as a card from the Queen.
They also received £315 of donations in lieu of gifts, which they kindly donated to Crowle Playing Field Committee, where their granddaughter plays for the Crowle Ladies' team. Doris joked: "Football runs in the family, I've had it all my life! We used to have to travel back up north every weekend so Jack could play for his Crowle team. Then my sons played football and and my grandsons as well." (25-10-80 GT)
