Gas works begin

Essential maintenance work to gas mains in Jefferson Street in Goole began on Monday - and Carter Street is next in line for a revamp.
Work to replace 380 metres of gas mains in Jefferson Street is expected to take around two weeks to complete, after which time contractors from United Utilities, working on behalf of Northern Gas Networks, will move on to Carter Street to replace a similar length of gas mains.
A spokesperson from United Utilities said this week that the work is being carried now because associated work carried out recently in Boothferry Road and Mariners Street was completed ahead of schedule.
The spokesperson said: "The other work has been finished so quickly that we would bring this task forward before winter sets in.
"All homes in Jefferson Street and Carter Street have been written to about the work, and Sarah Meakin, our customer liaison officer, is visiting homes to talk to residents about the work."
United Utilities is keen to assure residents that disruption will be kept to a minimum.
