Plaques bearing the names of three Howden residents who have died on military service are set to be mounted on the Howden War Memorial at the Remembrance Sunday service.
Following the tragic death of 21-year-old Luke Simpson in Iraq earlier this year, members of Howden Town Council decided that his name should be commemorated on the town's War Memorial, and also sought to identify any other local servicemen who had lost their lives in war service.
The search brought to light two more names - Able Seaman Joseph Naylor, who was lost at sea whilst serving on HMS Gould in 1944, and Lance Corporal Roy Graves Houlder, who died in Egypt in 1947 and is buried in the Tel El Kebir Cemetery, which is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Plaques bearing the three men's names will be mounted on the War Memorial, and their names included in the List of the Fallen, at the Remembrance Sunday service, which takes place at Howden Minster at 10am on Sunday, November 11.
