Final for green Lifestylers

Lifestyle Group 'Creature Features' took part in the Environment Agency's GreenScene Challenge this year and have reached the final judging process. The EA challenged Lifestyle teams to help improve the environment and look at how to reduce the impact of climate change to be in with a chance of scooping the GreenScene Environmental Award.

From the hundreds of entries Katie Baxter, of Reedness Primary School and Emily Hutley, of Carlton Holy Family School, are now in with a chance of winning the top prize of a trophy and mountain bike at the Lifestyle Awards on November 6.

Over the summer the pair cleaned up the pond at Reedness Primary School after it became overgrown with weeds. Flowers were planted, as well as a bird-bath, feeders, a mini-greenhouse and much more to attract local wildlife. The area is now an outdoor educational wildlife area to enhance pupils' learning.

The girls even set up a gardening club at the school, providing worksheets and fact files for the resources box. Local businesses donated prizes for a summer fair and tombola and items for the wildlife area.

Katie and Emily were presented with certificates and family tickets for The Deep when visited by judges from the Environment Agency on Tuesday.

The winner of the GreenScene Award will be revealed at the Lifestyle Awards at Hull City Hall on November 6.
