Free plugs
A scheme open to benefit claimants in Goole aims to cut costs and help the environment.
The Goole and District Coalition of Physical Disabilities has been given 480 PowerDown plugs by energy suppliers Powergen and is distributing them to anyone receiving certain benefits.
"They're brilliant," said Cliff Woolass, of the Coalition. "You can use them with a computer or television set: when you turn it off, it turns off all the peripherals.
"You save money and it helps the environment."
The scheme will run until the end of December, or until all the plugs have been handed out.
To be entitled to claim a PowerDown plug, you must be in receipt of one of the following: council tax benefit, housing benefit, income support, income-based job seekers' allowance, attendance allowance, disability living allowance, war disablement pension (which includes either a mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance), disablement pension (which includes constant attendance allowance), state pension credit, child tax credit (where the relevant income is £14,600 or less) or working tax credit (where the relevant income is £14,600 or less).
To claim, call the Coalition on 01405 837113.
