Luncheon Club
Goole and District Women's Luncheon Club members recently began a new year and enjoyed an interesting and informative talk from a former journalist and retired solicitor.
At the recent meeting, president Mary Bruines asked members to stand to remember two friends who died recently, Mrs Sheila Drury and Mrs Marian Watkins; the latter was the Club's luncheon secretary for many years.
After lunch Mrs Bruines introduced the guest speaker, Gordon Hetherington, who gave a talk entitled '45 years on the game'.
Gordon started his career as a journalist but was 'pressed' by his father to study law so became a solicitor; he recently retired as a coroner. His talk mostly concerned the differences in law today compared with what it was many years ago.
Members agreed that the talk was very interesting and they were, at times, regaled with humour. Mrs Bruines closed the meeting by thanking Mr Hetherington for an interesting and informative talk.
