Goole MP Ian Cawsey met with the committee of the newly-formed Osteoporosis Support Group last week to demonstrate his support.

The group has formed to allow people to meet up and discuss the condition and to raise public awareness. They also hope to start an exercise group for sufferers in the new year.

An osteoporosis open day will be held on Monday at The Courtyard from 1pm for anyone who would like more information about osteoporosis for themselves, a family member or friend and for anyone who feels they may be at risk of developing the condition.

Sue Steel, consultant physicist from the Centre for Metabolic Bone Disease at Hull Royal Infirmary, will also be giving a talk on scanning for osteoporosis and services within the area and there will hopefully be a newly-purchased mobile scanner there to view. The event is free of charge and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be provided.

Mr Cawsey said: "There are a number of support groups in the area for various conditions but there is nothing for osteoporosis, so it's nice that there is now something to support local people. This group gives a focus point for people who want information, it is always better when it is focused on one group and one body."
