Staff at Evolution Veterinary Practice in Thorne are celebrating the success of their recent charity dog walk that attracted more than 50 fundraisers and netted in excess of £5,000.

The event, which took place earlier this month, was organised by vet Tim Aldren and saw more than 50 people set off on a nine-mile hike from Thorne, through countryside that took in Stainforth and Fishlake, before returning to its start point.

"It was a glorious day, which certainly helped make it a hugely enjoyable event," said Tim.

"We would like to thank all our walkers for their efforts and to our sponsors for all their support. We don't have a final total yet of the amount of money raised, but we are expecting it will be in excess of £5,000."

Led by Tim and his trusty rescue dog Fred, the walk took just three hours to complete, and this included a stop at the John Bull pub in Thorne for refreshments. A number of volunteers also took along RSPCA rescue dogs from the local Bawtry branch. All funds raised are expected to go towards a new small-animal accommodation unit at the RSPCA centre, which will replace the old, worn-out units with warm and comfortable buildings.

And this is not Tim's first venture into fundraising - he previously organised a Three Peaks Challenge, when he raised £12,000 for a new ambulance for the Bawtry RSPCA centre.

Tim added: "We are really hopeful that we will have raised enough to start building the new unit straight away. It's still not too late to support us, and we are asking people who may be able to make a donation to the centre to get in touch."
