Wartime money raiser
Guests remembering the Battle of Britain raided their wartime wardrobe for a fundraising evening recently.
The King's Head in Pollington recently hosted an evening which recalled the Battle of Britain and raised money for the Pollington Airfield Memorial Gardens.
Staff and other supporters dressed up as wartime characters, from RAF and WAAF members to nurses, and local people and businesses donated prizes and items to be auctioned.
Guests enjoyed a buffet and sang along to wartime songs before Catriona McNeil brought the evening to a poignant close with her rendition of The Last Post.
The proceeds were counted and the landlady of the King's Head, Tracey Moakes, presented the secretary of the Pollington Airfield Memorial Garden Secretary, Renee Ounsley, with a cheque for £1,162.
In return, Mrs Ounsley thanked the landlady on behalf of all the committee with a bouquet of flowers.
A spokesperson said: "A big thank you to all those bidders who made such a resounding success of the evening."
Thanks were also given to all those who donated items for the auction or raffle, who included Renee Ounsley and the Pollington Memorial Gardens Committee, Paul Simpson (Old Mill Brewery), Ken Proctor (Layburn Tools), Andy Naylor (Naylors Carpets), Alan Smith (Garage), Daniel Woodward (slave for the day), Tracey Moakes (The Kings Head), Carlsberg Brewery, Daleside Brewery, Julie Hirst (driving instructor), David Ball (Regency Printers), John Hagar, Highgate Farm, Charles Thornton, Fleur De Lys, Image Hair Studio, Snaith Post office, Snaith Paper shop, Garners Chemist and Mr Scratching's confectionery.
