Charity shop's plea for more volunteers
Staff at a charity shop in Howden have made a desperate plea for volunteers.
The Dove House Hospice shop, on Market Place, has a regular supply of donations but needs more people to help sort and sell them.
Lindsay Mason, volunteer services manager, said: "It's a slow time for volunteers, perhaps because of holidays.
"We're desperately needing people to come in and help.
"The shop opens between Monday and Saturday and we especially need people on Saturday.
"On Saturdays, people aged 16 and upwards can volunteer."
As well as contributing to a good cause, volunteers also help their professional career.
"It's good for people who want to build up a CV," said Lindsay.
"Nowadays, a lot of people favour employees who have volunteering experience. It's quite good fun, too - everyone gets on really well."
Dove House, in Hull, offers support to patients with life-limiting diseases and their family.
The hospice receives funding for the equivalent of 88 days per year and so rely heavily on fundraising.
"The shop is vital to that," said Lindsay. "And without the volunteers, we wouldn't have the shop.
"Even two hours a week would make a big difference. We'd be grateful for any time that could be donated.
"It's just like any normal high street shop. Just because we sell donated items, it doesn't make any difference."
The volunteers would be working with the shop's new manager, Alison Thompson, and new assistant manager, Maureen Shields.
Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Lindsay on 01482 785769.
