Employees at the Press Association (PA) in Howden may soon be able to park and walk rather than park and ride to work.

Plans to change agricultural land into a new car park on land south of Thorpe Lodge, Station Road, were approved at a planning meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

The new car park, around 500 metres from the PA building on Bridgegate, will include 200 spaces and will replace the park and ride facility at the former Kilpin Country Club.

A report to Tuesday's meeting said that although the new car park might generate more traffic in Howden, the increase should be considered against the benefits of removing the 168 daily trips currently made by the shuttle bus.

Howden Town Council and Howden Civic Society were both in favour of the new car park.
