Crashed car while over limit
A teenage driver who crashed his car after drinking lager told the town's magistrates that it was one of the most stupid things he had ever done.
Jordan Chappell (18), of Northgate in Moorends, pleaded guilty to driving while over the prescribed limit on Tuesday after an accident which left his Ford Escort on its roof.
Julie Younger, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said that police had been called to an accident on the A614 near Rawcliffe in the early hours of the morning.
They discovered Mr Chappell, who was the driver and the owner of the vehicle, and a second man.
Mr Chappell took a roadside breath test, which proved positive, and he was arrested at 2am.
He was taken to hospital and examined but appeared to have no injuries and was subsequently interviewed by police.
Further tests showed that there were 77 mcg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath, making him more than twice over the legal limit for a driver of 35 mcg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath.
Miss Younger said that Mr Chappell became tearful and made a "candid confession".
Defending himself, Mr Chappell said: "It was one of the most stupid things I've ever done."
He told magistrates that he had had a couple of pints of lager. "I don't know why I got in the car," he said.
"I'm going to lose my job."
Magistrates disqualified him from driving for 20 months and ordered him to pay a £200 fine, costs of £43 and a victim surcharge of £15.
"I think you've realised your stupidity is going to cost you dearly," magistrates told him.
