Housing development plans move a step closer to reality
Plans for an 18-property development in Newport took a step closer to reality this week.
Headrow Housing Group submitted a planning application in March this year for a development of five bungalows, seven two-bedroomed houses and six three-bedroomed houses.
They would be built off Thimblehall Lane, and a new access road from that lane would be created.
At a meeting in July, Headrow Housing were told by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's planning committee that planning approval would be deferred and delegated until certain conditions were met.
These included drawing up an agreement which will ensure that the needs of local people are met and off-site play space can be provided, and completing a test requested by the Environment Agency (EA).
The first agreement, known as a Section 106 agreement, is yet to be completed but a report to a planning meeting on Tuesday said: "The developer is committed to these requirements and work is under way on the preparation of this agreement."
The EA are now satisfied that the necessary test has been carried out, and are happy for the development to go ahead, provided that conditions relating to finished floor levels and an elevated place of safety for each property are attached to any planning consent.
Despite five letters of objection from residents, the planning committee was satisfied with the plans and the report in July said: "There is evidence of need for affordable housing in Newport."
Councillors agreed that planning approval should be deferred and delegated until the Section 106 agreement is completed.
A number of conditions, relating to matters including floor levels, drainage, landscaping and access will be attached.
