Goole RSPCA members are holding a Pet Action Day on Saturday, September 29 in memory of former minutes secretary and tireless volunteer Shirley Mapplebeck.

Shirley's legacy has enabled Goole RSPCA to set up an event to promote the animal welfare legislation and offer a variety of free services, including ID chipping, neutering for cats and dogs, vaccinations for rabbits and health checks.

There will also be an animal behaviourist, rabbit experts, information stalls, animal-friendly giveaways for your pet, local vets on hand for animal advice and much more. All this will be held at The Courtyard in Goole from 10am until 4pm.

A spokesperson said: "Shirley attended every meeting and always helped out at events with teas and coffees, never expecting any praise or thanks for her tireless work.

"She got involved in any way she could but didn't make a fuss of the valuable contribution she made to the branch. The fostering team can vouch for this as she would always pass an envelope under the table with money for the foster cats at every meeting, but would steadfastly refuse to have her donation minuted or thanked officially.

"She was a great believer in helping all animals and was keen to make the most of the opportunities the branch were given. It is thanks to her that we're able to do something that the branch believes she would've been proud to be part of if she were here."
