Patients give thumbs-up for Humber Mental Health

Published on 6th September 2007 in News

Staff at Humber Mental Health have been rated the best in the country by patients.

The levels of care have been praised by patients in the biggest assessment of their views on the treatment and care they receive.

Patients rated staff the best in the UK, with 96 per cent of patients saying they are treated with dignity and respect and 94 per cent saying they are listened to.

In its survey of 69 NHS Mental Health Trusts, the Healthcare Commission reported that 86 per cent of patients rated the levels of care given by the trust as excellent, very good or good.

The Trust also scored the highest in the country for the effectiveness of talking therapies and patients understanding care plans. Patients returned particularly high marks for the confidence they had in staff, with 88 per cent saying they trusted their nurse.

The Trust received above-average ratings for patient care, having a say about medication, knowing their care co-ordinator, the quality of care reviews, receiving information about local support groups and supporting carers and family members.

Ros Taylor, Chairman of the Trust, said: "Reading these results makes me extremely proud of all of our staff. We always strive to provide high quality and effective care and so to receive this endorsement from those who use our services is very special to us.

"We could not do so within stretched resources without the dedication and hard work of our staff. These results underline our core business, providing high quality effective care and reflect the views of the people who matter the most."
