Gallery showcase for charity art
People across Goole are being urged to dust off their easels and pick up a paintbrush to support Sue Ryder Care's Arts Liberating Lives initiative.
The event, now in its third year, reflects the importance of art as therapy in its six hospices and nine neurological care centres nationwide and offers Goole people in its care the exciting opportunity to exhibit their works at a prestigious exhibition in London.
For the first time Art Liberating Lives is being opened to the public. Artists, from the novice to the professional, are being urged to create works in any medium which reflect the theme of 'liberation'. The charity is staging a number of art-related workshops across the UK. Art groups and individuals are also invited to host their own events.
It is hoped all the works submitted, which will be exhibited at the Mall Galleries from Wednesday, December 12 to Friday, December 21, are snapped up by art lovers through a silent auction to help the charity.
School children are also being urged to let their imaginations run wild to answer the question 'what does my brain look like?' as part of a special competition.
Information packs are available to download from the charity's website www.suerydercare.org. An overall winner will be chosen and their school awarded £5,000 worth of art supplies, as well as prizes to the individual and runners up, courtesy of Findel Education.
Els Tompkins, fundraising manager at Sue Ryder Care, said: "I think Art Liberating Lives is a great way to support the charity, having fun along the way by creating something unique and personal. I hope local artists both amateur and professional will join in and send me their pieces of art."
