A drug addict who helped himself to meat and alcohol from a supermarket has admitted a charge of theft.

Martin Walker (31), of King Edward Road in Thorne, appeared at Goole Magistrates' Court and admitted stealing two legs of lamb and a bottle of Sambuca from the Lidl store.

The goods were worth £24.97.

The court heard that Mr Walker had been using drugs for around 10 years but had had difficulty sustaining his habit since he lost his job last year.

Mr Walker was given a drugs rehabilitation order by another court last month, and magistrates agreed that his case should be adjourned until Tuesday, September 11 for a report to be prepared.

Mr Walker was granted unconditional bail until that date.
