A town councillor has claimed the costs of Goole's biggest new development have spiralled out of control.

Kester Dean, who is a member of Goole Town Council, is calling for Yorkshire Forward to reveal more details of the money being spent on the Centreport site.

Cllr Dean said: "Figures obtained from Yorkshire Forward under the Freedom of Information Act show that the budget jumped from £24.4 million in March to £26.8 million now.

"And with an additional £3,274,000 handed over to American multinational Guardian Industries, the total subsidy so far runs to over £30 million.

"Subsidies are spiralling out of control."

The councillor says he has asked Yorkshire Forward to show what controls are in place to ensure value for money but has not received the information and has appealed to the Information Commission.

"People are entitled to know exactly how this money is being dished out and what it should be delivering.

"In these circumstances, Yorkshire Forward needs to justify the allocation of such massive sums of public cash."

Dave Custance, head of property at Yorkshire Forward, said: "Mr Dean requested information from Yorkshire Forward regarding the Centreport site in Goole earlier this year. We responded to his inquiries directly and provided him with information wherever possible."
