A Goole businessman has claimed that more yellow lines in Goole could seriously threaten his livelihood.

Jeffrey Nicholson, of the Motech garage on Carlisle Street, is concerned that waiting restrictions on Burlington Crescent could leave him with nowhere to park his customers' vehicles.

"My business backs on to Burlington Crescent," Mr Nicholson said. "It's the only place we can park customers' cars."

Burlington Crescent is one of several streets which will be subject to restrictions as part of a parking review intended to reduce congestion in Goole.

Other areas include part of Hook Road, Centenary Road, Eastgate, Alexandra Street and St John's Court.

Burlington Crescent was included in the plans because of fears that buses could not pass, and that turning into Victoria Street and Carlisle Street was difficult.

The plans were discussed at an East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet meeting on Monday.

Labour and Goole Town councillor Keith Moore spoke on behalf of Mr Nicholson but the plans were approved.

However, if support can be found from another political party by tomorrow (Friday), the decision could be called in for review by an overview and scrutiny committee.

The committee would look at the issue in more detail and offer advice to the cabinet.
