A GOOLE man has elected to stand trial after denying involvement with a shotgun.

Eugene Francis (38), appeared shoulder-to-shoulder with Daniel Severn (21) at Hull Crown Court on Monday (September 3) both charged with a possession of a prohibited firearm.

They spoke only to confirm their names and deny a charge of possession of a shortened BSA 12-bore ejector shot gun.

Mr Francis formerly of Heber Street in Old Goole, also denied a separate charge relating to the gun between May 1 and May 15, 2007.

However, he pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine on May 15.

His barrister Charlotte Eastwood asked for the case to be listed by the courts for a trial.

There was no application for bail at this stage. Barrister James Baird said there would be an application for bail for Mr Severn, currently of no fixed abode, once police had checked out an address for him.

Judge Roger Thorn, QC, agreed the case should be listed for trial at Hull Crown Court on a date yet to be fixed. Both men were remanded in custody.
