MAN DIES IN CRASH
A pensioner from Goole died and his two young passengers were seriously injured when a lorry and a car collided near Driffield on Monday afternoon.
Three air ambulances were called to the scene to deal with the seven casualties from the two vehicles, which included three children.
The man from Goole, whose identity had not been revealed when we went to press, was travelling towards Bainton on the A614 when his Volkswagen Golf was in collision with a Ford Iveco cargo tipper travelling in the opposite direction.
The 66-year-old man suffered serious injuries and had to be cut free from the wreckage by eight firefighters using 'jaws of life' type hydraulic rescue equipment.
Sadly, his injuries proved fatal and he died in Hull Royal Infirmary.
Two children in the back of the car - a two-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy - suffered serious injuries and remain in Hull Royal Infirmary.
As we went to press yesterday (Wednesday), the children were said to be in a stable condition.
The front-seat passenger of the Golf, a 63-year-old woman from Goole, suffered minor injuries, including whiplash and abrasions.
The Yorkshire air ambulance attended the scene, along with a Humberside Police and RAF rescue helicopters.
The lorry driver, a 29-year-old man from Tadcaster, suffered serious injuries including a broken leg and ankle. He is currently being treated at Hull Royal Infirmary, where his condition is comfortable.
His two front seat passengers, a 27-year-old woman and a three-year-old girl, also from Tadcaster, suffered minor injuries.
Around 100 litres of diesel were spilt as a result of the accident, which happened just after 5pm, and firefighters worked to prevent it entering the drains.
Glenn Ramsden, spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Resuce, said at least seven different agencies worked together at the scene.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.
Anyone who saw the vehicles being driven before the accident, or witnessed the collision, is asked to contact Humberside Police on 0845 6060 222, quoting log number 467 of September 1.
