An appeal against an alleged breach of planning control on Acorn Farm off Dorr Lane, Gowdall has been made to the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol.

It appears to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) that, without planning permission, there has been a change of use of the land at Acorn Farm from agricultural use to the siting of a caravan used as living accommodation. It is thought that this has taken place over the last ten years.

The siting of a mobile home in this locality is considered to be contrary to the Boothferry Borough Local Plan, which states that proposals for new dwellings associated with agriculture, forestry or other activities located in the open countryside will only be allowed if there is a genuine need, and if the Local Planning Authority is satisfied that there is no reasonable alternative to a dwelling.

The appellant in this case is Christopher Lindley, and the appeal process got under way on July 16. The appeal is to be decided on the basis of an exchange of written statements by the appellant and ERYC, and by a site visit from an inspector appointed by the Secretary of State.
