Store manager in charity wax bid
A store manager has volunteered to put his pain threshold to the test for a good cause.
Aaron Stewart, manager at the Co-operative Food Store in Howden, has agreed to have his legs waxed at the shop's biggest-ever charity event on Sunday, September 30.
How much of Mr Stewart's legs will be determined by the store's customers, who are contributing to a 'tube of terror'.
The tube is a column which is gradually being filled with donations and has markers which will dictate how much of Mr Stewart's legs will be waxed.
"It goes by levels," said them manager, who confessed it was a "worrying" situation. The higher the level, the more pain there will be. It's a bit nerve-racking."
Liz Neal and Claire Ellis, proprietors of The Nail Salon, have agreed to go into the store, for charity, to carry out the waxing.
As well as Mr Stewart's gruelling challenge, there will also be activities which customers can take part in, including a raffle.
Prizes include an adult mountain bike, donated by Warburtons Bakers, a luxury dairy hamper from Dairy Farmers of Britain, several cases of Coke Orange from Coca-Cola and a £50 shopping voucher from British Bakeries. Among the many other prizes are a £50 Co-op food voucher and a £25 Co-op food voucher.
Nicola Osborne, for Howden Co-op, said: "The day should be a lot of fun, with staff in fancy dress and food-tasting sessions throughout the day. There will also be a tombola with various prizes to be won.
"Colourful kids' face painting will be in store between the hours of 12pm and 2pm, for those younger ones out there."
Tickets are available in store now.
To get their fundraising off to a roaring start, the store is running a Name the Teddy Bear Competition.
Nearly all the names have been taken and Nicola said: "It's shown just how supportive the Howden community is when it comes to such a good cause."
The money raised will go to the Children's Society.
