Man caught over limit after dispute
A man who got into a car and drove while over the legal drink limit after a dispute has been given a 12-month ban.
Neil Blanchard (44), of Edinburgh Street, appeared at Goole Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and admitted driving while having 52 mcg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath. The legal limit for a driver is 35 mcg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath.
Crown Prosecutor Julie Laverack Glanville told the court that the police were called to a domestic incident involving Mr Blanchard's former partner on August 9.
Following reports that Mr Blanchard's breath had smelt of alcohol and that he had driven off at speed, he was arrested and taken to Goole Police Station.
A test showed that he was over the legal limit for driving.
Mrs Laverack asked that he be given credit for his early guilty plea.
In his defence, Mr Blanchard said he and his former partner "had been going through a break-up" and things had got out of control.
"Normally, I wouldn't have got in the car at all," he said.
Magistrates disqualified Mr Blanchard from driving for 12 months, ordered him to pay a fine of £150, a victim surcharge of £15, and court costs of £55.
