Four fire engines and an aerial platform helped fight a fire at an engineering works in Gilberdyke last Thursday night.

Crews from Goole, Snaith and Howden went to Linden Tooling Services on the B1230 near Slipper Bridge shortly before 10.30pm.

The first crew to arrive had to withdraw because of fears that acetylene cylinders and flammable liquids were involved.

Back-up was requested immediately and, at the peak of the fire, four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a main water jet and thermal imaging equipment to fight the fire.

Glenn Ramsden, spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The initial problem was locating a water supply which would be sufficient to provide the volume of water required to fight this fire.

"Once crews had established the supply and been able to discount the additional hazardous materials, the operation was handled superbly by the attending firefighters."

Investigations into the cause fire have found it started because of a fault in a milling machine.
