Clients have praised the work of the Boothferry Citizens' Advice Bureau, which helps countless residents deal with problems such as debt, benefit and employment.

A staggering 97 per cent of those who took part in a recent customer satisfaction survey said they would recommend the charity to other people, and nine out of ten of those polled rated the organisation's service as being "very good to excellent". An even higher percentage indicated their willingness to use the CAB again.

The Major of Goole, Cllr Jean Kitchen, said: "I was pleased to hear at first hand how the bureau performs such an important role in the local community," after she presented the bureau trustees with a Town Council grant of £12,360. "Most people who visit the CAB appreciate that it is a charity and that volunteers are such an essential part of it."

A spokesman for the bureau said: "We were delighted at the response to our annual client satisfaction survey. Such positive feedback demonstrates the value of the services provided by our voluntary and paid staff.

"Our trustees are also extremely grateful for the continuing financial support shown by Goole Town Council, which is a vital part of our funding. Several parish councils in the district also make donations each year.

"Without such help, and the generosity of others in the town and elsewhere, we would not be able to function as effectively."

Bureau advisers help clients to resolve issues ranging from benefit entitlement and unfair dismissal to personal debt and consumer issues. Planning disputes, relationship difficulties, alleged medical negligence and a host of other matters also figure prominently in the charity's annual statistics.

The spokesman added: "Our workload seems to increase each year, as does the complexity of many of the issues involved and the need for all of us to keep pace with new and evolving legislation.

"We sometimes think that our advisers must have dealt with every possible subject and then a client asks for advice with a problem that no one's encountered before."

Anyone potential volunteers interested in joining the bureau, either to train as an adviser or to undertake other duties, can obtain full details on 01405 720866 (advice is not available on this number).
