RSPCA in bid to re-home cats and raise much-needed funds
Goole and District RSPCA's annual Dog Show may have been called off this summer but the charity is still urging the local community to join in the fundraising fun by going along to the Grand Cat Pen Open Day this Sunday, August 19.
The free event takes place from midday until 4pm at 8 Field Lane in Rawcliffe, and guests will be able to enjoy the various stalls on display - which include cake stalls, raffles and tombolas - as well as children's games and refreshments.
Visitors will also be able to take a look at the cats that are currently being cared for by the local RSPCA branch but who are in need of loving homes. All are welcome to attend.
On Saturday, September 29, the local RSPCA branch will be hosting an event at
The Courtyard in Goole, from 10am until 4pm, in which members of the charity will be explaining the Animal Welfare Act to pet owners in the area.
John Kershaw, secretary of Goole and District RSPCA, said: "The event will aim to raise the profile of the Animal Welfare Act and inform people that they have a duty of care to their pets, rather than simply deciding that they don't want them anymore.
"At the moment, the national RSPCA is keeping a low profile and is just trying to make people more aware of the Act, so this is our contribution."
John added that the event will also be an opportunity for owners to have their pets micro-chipped or neutered, and there will even be a de-flea service available.
